Ok, everyone list at least 5 "classics" they've never read, but would like to, (this point is very important) in the comments section. Maybe, just maybe, there will be one in common!
Middlemarch by Elliot Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Carroll Lolita by Nabokov Catch-22 by Heller The Island of Dr. Moreau by Wells Slaughterhouse-Five by Vonnegut
Grapes of Wrath (Steinbeck) Middlemarch (Elliot) Lolita (Nabokov) Possession (Byatt) The Idiot (Dostoevsky) East of Eden (Steinbeck) Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Carroll) - hadn't thought of that one! Catch-22 (Heller) Great Expectations (Dickens) As I Lay Dying (Faulkner) The Catcher in the Rye (Salinger) 1984 (Orwell)
I know there are more, but that's definitely a start.
Here is the start of my list: Catch 22 - Joseph Heller Anna Karenina - Leo Tolstoy Gulliver's Travels - Jonathan Swift Les Miserables - Victor Hugo Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck
The Catcher in the Rye (Salinger) Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Carroll East of Eden (Steinbeck) Of Mice and Men Steinbeck Pride and Prejudice The Great Gatsby Madame Bovary Crime and Punishment
Gone with the Wind - Mitchell The Hunchback of Notre Dame - Hugo Paradise Lost - Milton Wizard of Oz - Baum Middlemarch - Elliot Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Carroll The Island of Dr. Moreau - Wells East of Eden - Steinbeck Great Expectations - Dickens Lolita - Nabokov Gulliver's Travels - Jonathan Swift Les Miserables - Victor Hugo Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Kesey Pride and Prejudice - Austen The Hunchback of Notre Dame - Hugo Paradise Lost - Milton Wizard of Oz - Baum
I am thinking Dara really wants The Wizard of Oz as she listed it twice. :) Actually, I would not mind adding that one to my list as well. Is Wicked a Classic??? Gulliver's Travels and Grapes of Wrath are 2 more I would like on my list as well. Got to do Grapes of Wrath being from OK.
