B.A.D. Girls Book Rating: 7

Our favorite thing about it: Learning interesting things about an artist we all know of.

Our least favorite thing about it: How tragic some of those details were.

Main Topics of Discussion: Fame, Artists, Abuse, Relationships, Activism, Music

Our favorite quote: “If you could talk about music you wouldn’t need music.”

Notes: Most of us really liked this book. And we didn't know very much about Sinead, so it was very enlightening. Her childhood experiences and relationships with her parents and family shed so much light on her life and career. It was terrible to be reading this book about such tragedy and chronic loneliness that still remained hopeful at points and definitely at the end...only to know that she passed away this year. However, those of us who listened on audio (all but one of us) enjoyed hearing her words in her voice, even if that voice was monotone! Some of the more crazy details that we were surprised by were: her encounter with Prince, the details behind her tearing up the photo of the Pope, and finding out that she loved Dolly Parton! We also found that she was an incredibly principled and empathetic person whose experiences forbid her from living inauthentically. She didn't want fame and she didn't want to be controlled. We loved hearing about her relationship with each of her children and ultimately hated that their mother is no longer with us. For fans especially, this is an insightful read.

Memorable Meeting Moments: This was Lindsay's meeting, and since she now lives in another state, we had the meeting at Rachel's house and had a pool party. It was, of course, cooler than normal this evening, but we did swim and get in the hot tub. We discussed some plans for our upcoming trip to Colorado too!

What We Ate:  Lindsay brought Curry Pizza and salad for us. Rachel had some cheese dips, hummus, and German Chocolate Chess Squares for dessert.
